Invisible Disabilities

When you look at me, what do you see? A pretty girl, walking down the street,

Well then you’re right, but that’s not all, there’s more to me, come and listen y’all

Here’s a fact, you might not believe,

I have died twice, yes indeed,

Now you might be thinking,

that ain’t the truth, well it is,

And it happened during my youth

The first time was at nine days old,

and the second at two years old,

My heart stopped and I stopped breathing, now my heart works

And my story you shall be receiving

I was born with Hypoplastic

Left Heart Syndrome you see,

HLHS for short which means that

the left side of my heart I never received

I have had three open heart surgeries

to fix this disease,

The first surgery was at two weeks old and the surgeries worked with ease

I also have Exotropia

and have had four eye surgeries,

Because in the first

they moved the wrong muscle,

So they had to do three more

to fix their kerfuffle,

So now I wear glasses to see

without any trouble

I can’t look at one thing,

with both eyes at once,

But I can look at two different things, with each eye a bunch

I also have is a scar with keloids on it,

I wish this weren’t the case oh darn it,

Another thing that’s up with me,

is that my immune system

does not work properly

The last thing that I have,

is a rare chromosomal anomaly,

called Jacobsen Syndrome

JS for short, which means that

I’m missing 35 out of 20,000 genes,

In the tail of my chromosome 11,

thank you for giving this song

your full attention

This last disease is why,

I have all my other medical conditions and why I have some cognitive issues, thanks again for listening,

I hope that this song

didn’t give you the blues
